Donations: Usable food* can be donated and is welcomed. Donations are accepted at the soup kitchen through the back (east) door from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (After hours, contact Gabe Chavez at 575-644-8737). Donors are protected from liability by the federal "Good Samaritan" Act. A task-force of gleaners makes rounds in Las Cruces 7 days a week to accept donated foodstuffs from local businesses, a hospital, restaurants, grocery stores, bakeries, and producers.

Foodstuffs which are especially needed at all times include: Meats, ground coffee, canned tuna, pasta sauce, cheese, lunch meat, fresh produce, milk, salad dressing, mayonnaise, mustard, and sugar.

Some food is donated from local sources but much food and all service items must be purchased. Other costs include utilities, insurance, vehicle expenses, security, and salaries.
Monetary donations can be mailed to:
  • El Caldito
  • P.O. Box 2833
  • Las Cruces, NM 88004
Credit Card donations may be made right here via Google Checkout.

All donations are acknowledged in writing.

El Caldito is incorporated in the State of New Mexico as a Nonprofit Corporation. We are designated as a 501(c)(3) organization by the Department of Treasury, Internal Revenue Service, and are authorized to accepted donations which are tax deductible at fair value for the donor. No goods or services are granted in exchange for donations.

Memorial donations are a particularly thoughtful and productive means for honoring loved ones or recognizing special occasions.

Excess donated foods are passed on to similar organizations feeding the hungry, including Casa de Peregrinos, La Casa Domestic Violence Shelter, Jardin de los Ninos, Gospel Rescue Mission, an orphanage in Juarez, and Grace Fellowship (a soup kitchen in Deming, New Mexico).

* New Mexico food handling regulations prohibit use of homemade foods.
